Welcome to the Capital Region, Region 3

Hello charter administrators, developers and supporters!

We charters are our own best resource and can work together to help each other. We share many of the same problems and issues and can share some of the answers and resources. The key to our success in the education reform movement is cooperation and teamwork.

What issues face your schools? Is a facility your primary concern? Are the mounting state regulations and accountability requirements so onerous we need to develop a regional business cooperative? Is your special education cost skyrocketing and you need to share resources? Do you need a centralized student database for all your school records but the site license is too expensive for a single school? Are you a new developer who needs access to standardized forms, permission slips, and policies? Are you a high school and require UC course outlines for accreditation? Is your school hampered by a lack of sports opportunities and you need to develop a local sports league? Do you want to offer more drama, art, music or computer classes but can't afford to hire another teacher? Did your wonderful foreign language teacher move across the bay and is now looking for work? Does your school hold successful fund raising activities or do you know of a good grant writer? Do you have a strong relationship with your elected officials? Do you have a great school web site full of resources we should provide a link to? Do you have digital portfolio assessments which would be of value to similar grades? Do you have a successful student tutoring program? Did you develop successful teacher mentor relationships? Do you need help developing resources for the HSEE?

Let us use these pages to share innovative solutions and resources.

School Spotlight

The Camptonville Academy:The 2002-03 academic year represents the fifth year that The Camptonville Academy (TCA) is in operation. Originally, TCA provided instruction for grades K-12. TCA is a candidate for accreditation by the Western Association for Schools and Colleges (WASC), was awarded a Digital High School grant in 2000 and is currently applying for a dissemination grant for a project titled ONTRAC focused on Parent Training. The purpose of The Camptonville Academy (TCA) is to offer our parent constituents an alternative to public schools through the Personalized Learning approach. TCA serves approximately 735 students in Yuba County and the contiguous counties of Butte, Nevada, Placer and Sutter.

Golden Valley Charter School: Golden Valley Charter School, on the eastern side of Sacramento, uses the three-fold approach of Waldorf education methods to meet the intellectual as well as the emotional and physical needs of the growing child. Currently in our fourth year of operation, we have grown from 45 to more than 140 students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, and will add one grade each year to become a K-8th grade school. We have been honored to receive two grants in the past few months: a $500 grant for third grade flutes from Chalk It Up! Sacramento, and a two-year, $25,000 grant for our Children's Visual Arts Program from the Christensen Fund. MORE School Spotlights to come: if you’ve sent me your write up… you’re next! If you haven’t sent me a write up – why not?
