you arising out of your duties as an employed educator or staff
member in a school. The amount covered through your CANEC membership
dues is $1 million. You can increase your protection to $2 million

Assistance Program (EAP) |

EAP
offers assistance in short-term counseling, personal legal issues,
tax issues, childcare, eldercare, and organization of life's affairs.
As a CANEC member you and your family members can take advantage
of three visits per incident for issues related to one's personal
life. There is 24-hour toll-free access, on-line translation in
140 languages, telecommunications for the hearing impaired, and
on-site licensed counselors for emergency situations. |

Consultation Program |

CANEC
Employee members have access to an hour of legal consultation through
CANEC's network of California attorneys. The hour can be broken
down to 2 - 30 minute sessions. The attorneys are all experienced
in labor law, public school law, and charter schools and they are
geographically located throughout the state. Individual members
can take advantage of their hour free for issues such as understanding
the charter school law, understanding employee rights under E.E.R.A.,
or issues related to their work in a charter
school. |

/ Professional Development Opportunities

CANEC
members will receive discounts on conferences or other professional
development opportunities offered by or through CANEC. The employee
advisory council will help shape regional and statewide networking
events and professional development opportunities. In addition,
CANEC is in the process of developing a Conflict Resolution Program
for charter school employees, administration, and governing officials
that could offer academic credit. |

of CANEC will benefit from legislative support and public relations
efforts aimed at enhancing the environment for charters and increasing
the opportunities for charter schools to succeed. CANEC has a full-time
Director of Governmental Affairs and an Advocacy Coordinator in
Sacramento working from the state level to the grassroots local
level to help ensure that the charter school community remains strong. |

the state and in the nation. CANEC has two quarterly publications.
The CANNECTIONS newsletter contains information on legislation,
national trends, individual charter school news, and CANEC news.
The CharterClips publication is a packet of news clippings from
around the state on charter school happenings. CANEC's website and
listserv also contain valuable information on charter schools, legislation,
events, and other news effecting the charter community. |
