What is CANEC ?

The California Network of Educational Charters (CANEC) is heading into the new century as the nation's premier charter school networking and service organization and is the public voice of its members for the charter school movement in California. CANEC represents its members largely through networking, advocacy, and public relations.

Since it was established as a non-profit organization in 1993, CANEC has become a "virtual incubator" for charter schools. In this role, CANEC acts as a mentor by nuturing its members with resources and ideas, and by connecting them with other charter school educators to avoid the isolation that any innovative venture may face.

CANEC has worked to help ensure tht the charter school concept (freedom from regulations in exchange for performance and accountability) gets a fair chance as an education reform effort that may actually make a difference.

The impact of CANEC is not limited to California. By taking a lead in networking among state charter organizations, CANEC enhances the security and quality of charter schools both in California and across the nation.

Our mission is to facilitate the establishment and operation of high-quality charter schools and promote the growth and success of the charter school movement.

CANEC provides networking opportunities, services, resources, and advocacy for the diverse and changing needs of the charter school community.
