Charter School Grassroots Advocacy Training

at the 10th Annual California Charter Schools Conference

CANEC's Saturday Grassroots Advocacy Training is for parent volunteers in charter schools who are interested in becoming an advocate for their child's school and the California charter school movement. The training is intended for parent volunteers; however, we welcome and encourage anyone interested in becoming a charter school advocate to attend.

*Does not include meals.


Program:
(Please note the time change. The event now ends at 3:00 p.m. and not 11:45 a.m. as was previously advertised. Please feel free to attend any portion of the day.)

Time Program
7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Conference Registration / Grassroots Advocacy Training Registration
6:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. Continental Breakfast – Breakfast is not included with free registration. Breakfast and lunch can be purchased at an additional fee. Please indicate on registration form.
8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Grassroots Advocacy Training 101 – How does it work? How does it help your child’s school? What you can do to help.
10:00 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Break
10:15 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Grassroots Advocacy 201 – Building an infrastructure to support c.s. movement. What can you do at your school site to be part of the statewide infrastructure. Specific direction will be given.
12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Lunch and General Session – Lunch is not provided. Lunch can be purchased at an additional fee. Please indicate on registration form.
1:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Grassroots Advocacy Training 301 – Local Advocacy Efforts. Promoting your school to the press and other local advocacy efforts will be addressed, including: coalition building with local business and political community, running for a local office to be a voice for the charter school movement etc.
